Coming to you wearing my Executive Director hat, for the 501(c)(3) public charity my husband, Rob, and I created, which many of you may not know about.
We founded Gaines-Jones Scholars, in memory of my mother, father and sister. We give college scholarships to African American students in Southwest Georgia and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Proud to announce that this is our 21st year of giving! Since 2004, Gaines-Jones Scholars has awarded 304 scholarships totaling $380K to 182 students.
I’m not seeking donations (yet!) but simply asking you to help us spread this good news through your networks. Applications are now open on our website.Deadline is April 20, 2025.

Thanks in advance for helping us connect with communities involved with high school seniors in Southwest Georgia and the San Francisco Bay Area to inform them about our scholarship program: parents, guardians, coaches, faculty, staff, congregations, teen centers, employers, relatives, friends, etc.
My parents, Mr. Silas and Mrs. Irene Gaines Jones, believed that one of the most powerful acts of sociopolitical resistance is to get an education.
